I am doing maintenance on my truck and want to clean the CDR. I have removed the 2 bolts holding it to the manifold but I am having trouble removing it. Do I just pull hard or is there some kind of clamp holding it to the hose? Just being cautious, Truck is new to me and I dont know if its ever been off.
Thanks,
WSM
i'm about to service my cdr soon and never did it also, was there a clamp or just 2 bolts and rip it off? what do you do to service it just spray it w/ carbcleaner or something? that might sound really stupid because I dont even know what a cdr is just know I have to service it soon!!!!
Remove the 2 bolts, gently pull the CDR away from the intake. The CDR also sits in a tube.....which could be clamped on, this tube is expensive so be carefull when removing the CDR from it. Just google CDR valve I'm sure some info will come up, pick the one that talks about "servicing" and oil use.
The tube it fits into HAD a crimped metal clamp on it. I had to pry it open with a screwdriver. I am assuming that it had never been cleaned before. There was nothing gentle about pulling it out, it took some force. I cleaned it in a can of gas and put it back without the clamp. I imagine it will come out alot easier next time.
Hmmmn, I don't THINK you are supposed to remove the tube from the "tuna can" part of the CDR. I just remove the two bolts, tilt it towards the firewall and lift straight up on it. The tube stays attached and pulls out of a rubber grommet in the valley-pan-gasket.....
I wasn't sure if the tube would come with the CDR or stay on the valley pan. In my case it stayed on the pan and pulled out of the rubber grommet at the CDR. If there is a rubber grommet on both sides of the tube I doubt it matters which side comes apart.
Thanks,
WSM

Newer ones must be a little different. Mine is like the ones others described above - crimped/clamped together.
But I agree - if it has a grommet at bothends it shouldn't matter.
