i have a 1993 f350 crewcab long box. this is the perfect truck, except it is only 2wd. iv read all i could find on a 4x4 conversion but im still not sure about everything. im looking to put a solid axle in the front. what must i do?
from what i read it seems that everything is bolt on, but i also read where mods had to be made with frame, custom driveshafts etc. it has an auto tranny rightnow, but id prefer standard. any tips or prefrences from others regurding what to use would be great. this is i first time project for me, so any help is greatly appreciated.
if you use some F150 4wd radius arms and a dana50 ttb you will need to modify the radius arms to fit on the I beam properly. It Is doable, they need to be narrowed down. Then you can use your springs.
For a manual trans youll have a pic between a 5 speed and two or three 4 speeds. If you swap to a manual grab a pcm (computer) from a truck the same as yours w/manny tranny. The tranny in yours is electronically controlled.
Hey pud, you just recommended that this guy installs a D50, and a D50 TTB to top it off. A 4wheel drive conversion itself is a big task. But do you really think this guy should install a TTB front end instead of the srtaight axle that he is already considering?
No, I missed that short little sentence where it said looking to do a solid axle. My bad. Most time people just want 4wd, where TTB will suffice and a D50 is the strongest of them....
To do a solid axle swap Im not even going to touch upon since there is a bijillion zillion articles on the internet. Full size bronco.com specifically has a whole forum devote to swapping a solid axle under 80-96 style fords. I suggest going there and reading all the stickies in that forum, then ask questions if one still has any.
