Well I have a 2000 2 wheel drive 7.3 diesel and instead of selling it and buying a four wheel drive I find it to be cheaper just to convert it over. It's an automatic with tow package of course. I know it's already wired up and there is a removable plate in the floorboard for the manual shift. Need parts or possibly a donor truck if anybody knows of one. Or if I could just get the front axle with brackets I could possibly get the rest in my own. Just not sure if I wanna go push button or locks....

It's a lot more work than you think. In the long run it will be cheaper just to buy a 4x4. You will not save money.

Here's a list of all the parts you need if you are doing a conversion with coil springs. If you're going with leaf springs, I'd imagine the setup is a little different. From what I read, going with 2005 parts will pretty much fit directly onto the '99-'04 trucks. I think the only (semi)major hurdle is the steering boxes. They are a little different.

Here's the site where I found what they were saying about the steering box. There's a couple different options there, but if you want improved turning radius, you'll have to switch steering boxes.

And here is another thread I found in my search detailing in pictures how his swap went. He has an '05-'07 truck, so it was a direct swap, but it shouldn't be much different. Hope this helps!

I'm looking into doing a swap sometime down the road, so be sure to post how things go!

That helps tremendously thank you. I have pretty much done all the same research, was just hoping I could grab some donor parts (ie front end, transfer case, etc) from some guys on the site.

Ok I found a donor truck with everything I need. Trans has about 40k on rebuild and transfer case is a year old. The motor has 346k but I don't need it...The guy has bought a bunch of brand new components for an all factory build. Whole truck minus the bed is what I have. Looks like a bolt on for the front axle to me.

The only issue i may see using the 05 up axle is that the wheels are different. Correct me if i am wrong.

I would rec. doing the coil conversion, and doing the 05+ rear end as well. The 2005+ has bigger brakes front and rear, better turning radius, and a better ride. Also with the 2005+ you are DANA60 only. That 99 you have is more than likely a DANA50. The swap itself is pretty easy. I did mine in about 19 hours. I know you are doing a leaf swap, but if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a line and I will answer if I can.

Where did you hear that you have a bolt-in floorboard? I was told it would have to be cut and welded to clear a ZF-6.

What he said. I looked at both frames and the bolt holes are there for all the brackets and suspension. Gonna change rear ends too while I'm at it. Still yet to start on the swap tho
