Everyone who has 3.73's and tried to tow with them has complained, either about power or gas mileage. Those with 4.30's do not. You figure it out As MadMedic said, some people have no clue about gears. Going from 3.73's to 4.30's means 14% more torque to the ground. That's a BIG difference.

We've heard of a few catalytic converters getting clogged in the '99-2000 range, based on mileage and age. You might want to check that out.

Besides all that, there is something seriously wrong if you're getting such bad gas mileage.

Important: What size tires are you running?

3.73 is not a bad gear ratio for pulling a load, I would say you have other issues.

I have 3.73s and 285s and the combination is fine up to about 10k lbs, when I tow both the boat and camper I'm 17k-18k lbs and I can hold 70mph up 6% grades, it does use 2nd at 4100rpm to do so but it does it without complaint! You have other problems, like someone else said, don't regear it untill you get everything else solved!

Just that if the MPG's are 6-8, and you're not hotrodding it, something is out of whack. it shouldn't be that bad.

Sure sounds like a fuel filter. I know mine was night and day difference when I pulled the bad fuel filter off. More power, revs faster, and better fuel mileage. I know you mentioned that it has been replaced but for under $10 (don`t forget the special tools bout $8) you can have peace of mind that it is new and working good. Just my .02

Have you brought your concerns to the dealer that did the reflash?

They may have screwed up and put in a "ping reduction" reflash - which of course, means less power.
