'95 F150 Modifications.

Hi. I'm new to the forum, and am asking for some assistance in modifying my truck. I'm 16, and have a regular cab 1995 F150, 4.9L 5-speed. I'm looking to update it's asthetics and performance, in the form of a new motor and some exterior modifications.

Has anyone on here taken a 5.0L from a Foxbody Mustang, and put it in a truck like mine? How hard was it to do? Did you run into any problems, or was it pretty straight-forward? I know these trucks were available with a 5.0L, and figured it was more or less the same engine as was in the foxbodies, so I figured this would be my easiest option. I'd like to achieve around 350hp, so I would have to do some mods to the 5.0L, which I'm fine with. Any advice as to how I should go about getting my truck ready for the transplant? I'll be having a local performance shop do the swap, but I'll probably be pulling the current motor out of the truck myself so I won't have to pay the shop to do it, to keep costs down. Once again, any advice?

My second question, is if anyone knows of any aftermarket ram-air hoods for this model truck? I've only been able to find one hood for this truck, and that was a cowl hood from LMC Truck, but I don't really care for it. If at all possible, I'd love to have a hood on my truck similar to the hoods that came on the 2003 Mustang Cobras. It's the one with the rear-facing scoops. Can someone provide me with some info on hoods for this truck?

Thank you for your time, and in advance for your help.

This is a picture of it, after being washed and waxed. I also plan to paint it eventually, probably a shade of red.

firdt thing you are gonna need is the mounts for the frame that the motor mounts bolt to. Second thing your either gonna have to swap out your rad for a 5.0 rad or you're gonna have to make up your own rad hoses if you keep the one that is currently in it. You're also gonna need the upper and lower intake plus the throttlebody off a 5.0 truck cause they face in theopposite direction on the stangs. As well you are gonna nedd a 5.0L ECU from a pickup cause your ECU also controls all your dash gauges (least on my 96 it does). Any questions shoot me a pm cause I just did the same swap in my truck

Did you use the tranny that was already in your truck, or did you use the 'stang tranny? Could I use my stock 5-speed tranny, or would I burn up clutches really fast if I did any mods to the 5.0? Thanks for your help, but it may be a while 'til I do the swap.

I used the tranny that was already in my truck. The tranny's will bolt right up. I'm not sure what you will have to do in regards to the clutch cause mine was an automatic. Somebody else will probably answer that for you shortly!

Cervini's used to make a couple different fiberglass hood models for these trucks...

If you're after performance and would like around 350 HP, you might be better off putting a modified 351W in the 4.9L's place.

The 5.0L will bolt up, but if you start adding more than the 215 HP that the 5.0L has, you're gonna need a stronger transmission when you get to the 350 HP mark, I'd look for a ZF 5 spd or a modified E4OD auto to put in it.

If I was doing this, I'd opt out for a stroked 351W with a ZF 5spd from an F250, have the engine stroked to a 393 or such, add the proper cam and some AFR (185's) heads, long tube headers, have the EFI converted over to MAF for the 351W (393?), add a nice dual exhaust set up, whatever the law states for you, make sure you get the computer properly tuned, and let the rubber fly! If you do not have a trac-loc in your 8.8 (rear differential), I'd strongly suggest you add one. You may even want to change the rear gears if they're 3.08's or 3.55's, I personally like 4.10's but for the street 3.73's also do wonders.

In my opinion, you will most likely be happier with the 351W over the 302, even if you do not stroke it out, you'll love that torque the 351 makes over the 302. I know I do.
