Thankfully I was moving fairly slow, even though there is still substantial damage. I had the dealership verify all the sensors are working this morning. It just makes me shake my head. I went to 3 dealerships and the best estimate to repair the tailgate was $550, so I left the tailgate with them. Then I went and bought my neighbor a new post and mailbox for about $65 at HD. He's an older gentleman and has been great about the whole thing, he's just tickled I told him because he had no idea the box was even knocked down. So it was a $615 screw up on my part. Bet I remember that mailbox is there now!
I'm having rotator cuff surgery at the end of the week and need to pay off the rest of the Christmas bills so I'm going to go with the Roush catback in the next week or two, and will probably add the IC/SC in a few weeks, and then the suspension if I decide I really want to lower the truck.
The suspension kit willlower your truck 2" in the front and 3" in the rear. So your truck wont be super slammed but it will still look tastefull and aggressive.
Starjack, What a Nice Truck you have there!! I love that color. Maybe when my lease is up, I will hopefully get into a Screw!! Hey, don't feel bad about your tailgate, anything outside of a regular cab truck is long. Hey it's water over the dam now. I did a similar thing with my prior truck, I was in a hurry and backed up and caught the bus stop sign. $300 later, it was fixed. I hope your surgery goes well too.
Cheers
Rich
Hello everyone, estimates to fix my tailgate ranged from a high of $690 at Mall of Ga. to a low of $560 at Billy Howell. I went with the low priced and I'm very pleased with the result! $50 to fix my neighbors mailbox makes me $610 poorer but warned to pay attention at all times regardless of speed and location when behind the wheel.
starjack: Hello and welcome to FTE. Sorry to hear about your little problem. From the picture it looks like they did a great job.
Just curious, I know to each their own, but why lower a 4X4?
Did you get the 6.5ft bed on your Screw? At least the pictures make it look to be the 6.5ft bed.Truck looks great, just keep an eye out for them darn mailboxes, they jump out of no where sometimes!!!
Thanks! Well, I'm still thinkin' about lowering it, haven't decided. This truck is more alternate transportation than work truck, I won't be pulling anything heavier than what a Ranger could pull. I don't go 'muddin', but I do have to be able to get to work under any weather circumstances, 100% of the time. Although I'm in Ga., we still have ice storms every 2-3 years and of course the occasional frog strangler. I just prefer having the 4x4 option for the very rare times I need it. With the Roush suspension kit the lowering is modest but the sway bar would likely be a nice handling improvement. Still, I haven't made up my mind... The catback's coming tho! <grin>
And yes, it's the 6.5 bed and I like it a lot! Now that I've learned those mailboxes can move on you I'll be more careful!

I'm right there with you on the use of my 150. Don't do too much pulling and the truck isn't used for work, but living here in CO 4X4 is almost a must in a truck. Now I do try to get off-road a few times a year, but nothing serious that I'd need to modify my truck for. A lift for the snow would be nice, but this truck seems to do fine without it. I'd look into the Roush sway bar, as I've never been too fond of Fords stock bars, especially on the 99 Explorer I had. I too will be looking at a cat-back, this seems to be a must anymore these days.
Again I'm glad the truck has been fixed to look like new. Have you replaced the mailbox already? If not, could you possibly move it up or down the road just a few feet so this doesn't happen agian?
I have a friend who backed into two different things. After the second one he had a video camera installed. Neat! The unit is mounted next to the license plate thru the rear bumper. About a 1" hole. A mirror is installed over the original rear view mirror. When you turn it on you get a wide angle view of what is behind you. It can easily be moved from truck to truck, and the total cost was less than $400.
