These writers have a case of amnesia.
True, I belive that there was a Ranger back in the late 80's that had a diesel in it. Or are you refuring to there being a diesel light duty truck in existance right now?

There were light duty diesel pickups available from GM, Volkswagon and Toyota in the late 70s early 80s. GM had the 5.7 and then later the 6.2 available in 1/2 ton pickups, vans and Suburbans. Volkswagen sold pickup versions of the diesel Rabbit and Toyota had the diesel available in their pickups.

what surprised me was the bable from people that said "if ford is still in bussiness"

Nissan and a friend is still driving an S-10 diesil from the early to mid 80's, you wouldnt know it though, thier is no body left on it, he has the outter door panels lines with cardbord/plastic, anything to help seal the cab

Well if Volvo has any part of it it will be a great engine. My 1990 240DL wagon has over 250,000 and still running strong(gasser). It leaks a little oil but I would trust it to go any were. I put about 2000 miles a month on it going back and forth to work and driving to get my kids ( they live about 2 1/2 hours away) and it is a stop and go route from northern Kentucky up thru Indiana to muncie area.
