Question on sterio wiring

Please bear with me. I don't know anything about electronics and wiring in vehicles. I'm hoping that you guys can clear up some things for me.

Five years ago I bought and had installed a new kenwood stereo. At the time of the install, the guy said that he hopes that this would be the only stereo I have installed, because if I wanted to change it out, the wires are going to be too short. I never thought of asking him to explain this, because I thought that I wouldn't need to change it. Now thinking about this statement is making me nervous, because now I find myself with a broken unit and I need to get another one.
Can you guys possibly explain to me what this means, and what would be needed to fix this issue?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Well of the person who installed your stereo was a noob, he cut the wiring and tied directly into them, instead of using an aftermarket coupler. That's the only way you'd cut the wiring.

In any event, you can always splice extensions onto the wires, and then use a coupler. You having a shop do this? If so, find one that is reputable, and if you do, they can figure out a way to make it all work.

Good luck to ya NH

That is what I thought. I'm goning to go to the place that installed my remote starter. They did a good job on that. I just wanted to make sure, before I call them so I don't look like a total moron.

Thanks for the quick reply!
