Have a 2000 Expedition that seems to be experiencing a rear heater core problem. Started out sounding like a gurgle in the left rear panel where the auxilliary blower and heater core are located. The gurgling stopped and now I have a constant click...click...click. Sounds like maybe a solenoid or a valve is sticking. Also have no heat in the rear when controlled by the front or rear controls. I believe that the no heat is caused by the heater core, but is it not working because the core truly is bad or because of a faulty solenoid or switch or valve and how might I be able to troubleshoot this??? Help, please. Thank you.
Oh man, I don't know. Is there any way you can open it up and see if the lines are hot and/or if there is some type of heater control valve that is not opening?
Well, I have not checked any of the lines yet for a valve. BUT I did locate some posts in here that related to the blend door. With the info I found here I was able to determine what was actually making the clicking noise. There are two small kind of clear or opaque units that seem to be actuators or little motors. I think have something to do with the blend door. Anyway, I determined which one was making the noise. I opened the little box up and found that one of the smaller gears had almost all of the teeth broken off it. So I'm gonna get it replaced and see if this fixes my heat and noise problem.
sparks you hit the nail on the head. That will solve the problem and is only about $50 as I recall. The clicking is a dead giveaway!
Tip for replacement if doing it yourself (keep the old unit take off the shaft and use it to help guide you with aligning the new one)---also can get someone else to slowly move the rear temp controller until the actuator shaft will go into place.
good detective work. I had no idea until the FTE guys told me what the problem was.
