as i said in another thread i had the unfortunate opportunity of takin water into my engine the other day while wheelin. no damage was done, i pulled the plugs and got all the water out. I am looking for some way of protecting my intake from letting water in. i don't want to run a snorkel, as i don't wish to cut up the body. This is the 5.8L with the dual intake tubes. As it stands now i have taken off the little "ram air" ducting that ran from above the radiator to the air box. any ideas on how to keep water from spraying/splashing up into the air box? I was thnking about taking some sheet metal or some rubber or plastic and making a baffle or just a barrier between the air box and the engine area, it would at least keep the fan from spraying water at the intake. i'm open to most ideas. also what do ya'll recommend for keeping the distributor dry?
To keep my distributor dry, I went to the junkyard and got a rubber boot off a crown vic ( I think). I out it on and siliconed it to the cap. Also silicone spray works great. Just spray everything down and it keeps it from getting waterlogged.
I've never put di-electric grease on a distributor, so I don't know if you can or can't, but I've always put di-electric grease inside the spark plug boots to keep them from getting water in there,l works like a charm on my 4-wheeler that I have snorkels on and submerge quite often.
