Quieting a Diesel?
Quieting a Diesel?
I would like to quiet my cab from my diesel engine and was wondering if doing the under side of my hood with "Second Skin" would have much of an impact. Any of you done it with any success? If so, what did you use? I really don't want to do the entire cab yet that is why I thought to start with the hood (if it helps). Any insight is appreciated!

I use dynamat, have for years.
Insulating the hood will not do a lot for interior damping. I have started doing mine, so I'll give you my list of done and to do.
2 sheets of tacmat and 2 sheets of dynamat extreme on the roof.
1 bulk pack to do the doors.
To do is
3 bulk packs of extreme to the floor and 4 sheets of tacmat
4 pieces of dynaplate to cover the holes in the door
4 dyna-orbs for behind the speakers.
If your cover the floor from the top of the fire wall back to back wall of the cab, it will make an amazing difference. With the thinner materials, you may need to layer.

I don't know what your talking about! I think that ford did a good job of sound proofing these trucks. I can not even hear mine at highway speeds, I fall asleep it's so quiet. In town when accerlating it is very quiet even when I'm towing unless you floor it. If you want a quiet truck go and buy a chevy with a crap a max. Real diesels are loud and scare people in parking lots. Thats the way they are ment to be.

did a good job of soundproofing? from what i can see there isn't any at all. your idea of quiet must differ from everyone elses....

i didn't get a diesel to scare people in parking lots. i got it to haul a trailer long distances. i prefer to arrive rested and not deaf. i get the deaf thing when i am at the track in the race car....
just wish i didn't have to look into sound deadening options in a $45k vehicle.
