I'm currently running a Predator DiabloSport tuner in my '04 6.0, and have been quite happy with it. However, I just increased my suspension lift and have gone from 35" to 37" tires and am unhappy with the speedometer error factor.
From what I have read, many people here are big fans of this SCT tuner (by the way, is this made by Superchips?). I went to their website and saw that they claim their unit will correct for tire size changes- is this correct? If so, what size tire will it correct up to- enough for my 37" tires? And finally, does this correction also cover the speedometer/odometer, or does it just help the transmission and other speed-influenced systems on the truck?
Thanks for the help. I am a little out of the loop on the newer tuners. Other than being able to adjust for the tires, I would LOVE to hear about any other benefits I might receive from going from Predator to Diablo. Thanks!
SCT and superchips are NOT the same company. Superchips does NOT have the adjustability the SCT does. I know you can get your tire size corrected at the dealership. I don't know if any of the tuners correct for tire size. I do know that having your PCM/TCM/FICM reading the correct speeds is important on how your vehicle functions and is tuned.
I'm running a SCT in my 04 6.0 and it did not correct speedo. I provided tire size (35") to Eric when he created programming but speedo is still not calibrated. I just got a small GPS and mounted it to the dash. I still get lost with the GPS but I know how fast I got there.

SCT spun off from Super Chips some time ago. They are a seperate company and make the Xcal2 programmer you hear so much about here w/ tunes as well. It does allow many factors to be adjusted in each tune; tire size is done by the number of revolutions your tire size makes per mile. For example, my factory 20's are shown to turn (on the goodyear website) 609 times to complete one mile and the adjustment is to the nearest 5 units so I select 610 in the SCT tuner. Tranny shift points, tranny presure points, gearing, etc. are all adjustable as well.
So, LoneWolf, is the end user (customer) able to access and change the speedometer calibration at home or is this something that a tuner has to do for you?
Yes, the end user can do all these things. The SCT Tuner/programmer has to do the EGR valve turn off in all tunes and/or the Turbo/Jake brake feature in the tow tune before they send you the tunes for your handheld programmer.

Hope this helps you.
Thanks, LW. One MORE question now, can you give me a quick rundown on the benefits and drawbacks of disabling the EGR. Any reason I wouldn't want to do this on my daily-driven, 37"-tired truck?
so can the speedometer be corrected using the tuner.... if not there are other options... superlift truspeed, jet accuspeed, merlin controls speed wizard
Lonewolftx is incorrect, none of the tuners I know of, including SCT, can correct the speedo in these trucks. The SCT tuners allow you to change tire revs/mile, but this only affects shift points and does not correct the speedo.

yeah thats what I thought too, but without it written up somewhere so i can point to it and prove it I dont even say what i think is right any more - i was proved wrong once and I got ridiculed for it so now i just act as if i don't know and I ask to make sure.
but on all my experience - same thing i never met a programmer that would make the speedometer read properly.
