Please give me an idea what is going on. I have an 06 F250 PSD auto trans 2WD. I am driving along on I-80 at about 70mph. No problems. My speedo dropped suddenly to 40mph then swept back up to 70mph. A couple of seconds later the ABS light came on. I exited off the interstate. Brakes are working normal, truck seems to be running normal. Once at a safe spot I shut the truck down. I started it after a few minutes. The ABS light came on as it normally does then went out. Has not done it again. The truck has about 9K on it.
Mine did the same thing as what you are describing. A few weeks later the ABS light came back on and it didn't go off. Took it to the dealer and they replaced a sensor in the real axle and the entire speedo/tach cluster. Works fine now.
Besides that little hicup, the Truck has been wonderful...
I just got my new 06 and the same thing happend to me at around 1500 miles. Speedo dropped abs light came on. After stopping and shutting it off to check things out is has been ok but only have 2400 on it not. Also starting to feel a drive line vibration that I can't seem to pin down. Could harldy feel it at first but seems to be getting a bit worse.
It has come on more times after the last one listed. Having it looked at on teh 18th. Ford Computer does show an ABS code: 3 item possible (Speed sensor, toner ring and something else) Stopped by to late to have truck looked at that day and was 7 hours from home.
Subject: 2006 F350 Lariet ABS Light
To Whom It May Concern:
This is a log of the ABS Light problem that I have been having for the past 8 months since purchase of above truck.
1. May 2006 (4368 miles) – While towing a empty car hauler the ABS light came on. The cruise control was activated then suddenly stopped. I reset the cruise control and it stopped aging along with the ABS light kicking on. The light stay on for approximately another 130 miles. The following day the ABS Light had reset. I stopped at Cal Worthington Ford but was told that they could not look at my truck unless the light was on.
2. June 2006 ( 5200 miles) – Same situation as above except it occurred while leaving Anchorage and heading back to Valdez. Stayed on the entire 305 miles.
3. July 2006 ( 6500 miles) – Once again the same situation as above. Occurred while heading back to Valdez. This time I did observe that right before the ABS light kicked on the Spedo dropped to zero than jumped back up to highway speed as the ABS Light kicked on.
4. August 2006 (Started at 7800 miles) – This time I was towing my 36’ 5ther on a 2000 mile trip through the Yukon. About 150 miles from Valdez it kicked on and stayed on the entire trip. This also occurred with a side trip to Skagway without the trailer. The only exception is that I was able to utilize the Cruise Control on this side trip.
5. Oct 2006 (10500 miles) – Same story with 5ther but to Fairbanks this time. Seekings Ford had no techs available when I stopped in.
6. Nov 2006 (11500 thru 14500 miles) – Three trips to Anchorage. Two with trailer and one without. In all cases same issue with ABS. I did stop in Cal Worthington the morning of the 3rd trip and was told this time that they did not necessary need the ABS Light on to look at the truck. Talked with the Service Rep about speed sensors in the wheels and he informed me that it was more than likely the Speed Sensor computer. Might not have that exactly right.
7. Nov 2006 (14500 Mile) – Wife driving to school to pick up kids. She stated the spedo just quite working for 10 minutes then magically began working again. Of course when it started the ABS Light kicked on.
So as you can see it initially started with towing trailer but has progressed to doing it with or without a trailer attached. Will try to established an appointment in Dec to have this looked at.
my 05 f350 just did the same thing for the second time. on I 80 crossing iowa just before christmas with cruise set. speedo dropped and cruize quit. reset after shutting off and driving a ways. did the same thing exactly 1 year ago. didnot set any codes at that time. will take in to see next week.
A typical symptom of a failing speed sensor is that trhe speedo will fluctuate or even drop to zero and pop back up. Also your cruise control may shut off and the tranny may shift funny.
Not sure on your model but the mid 90s had the sensor on the top front of the differnetial. About the size of a walnut and the only thing with wires on it in that area. Easy to change unless the sensor rign inside the diff is damaged.
Also could just be a bad wire or connector which can be a beach to find.
The low miles on yours mean it is under warranty and probably just premature failure.
Same thing happened to my 06 f350 at 2000 miles -- Bad sensor truck ran fine after the shock of the seeing the ABS light and speedo go to zero, changed the sensor, good to go -- Sounds like a common problem, and the other day I drove at 40 mph's according to the speedo and I live near Boston for about an hour but all went back to normal so im not sure what to make out of that but since its working now, I'll wait and see
It is only a 3 hour round trip for me. I called the "local" dealer and he shipped it to me for under $5 - had it the following day. The VSS (vehicle speed sensor) itself was under $25. An easy, under $30 fix - rare in Ford land, especially when a dealer part is involved :-)
My symptoms were the ABS light on and the tranny was shifting hard. The tranny had been shifting hard for a long time before the ABS light came on.
This happened to my 2000 F-250 at about 55,000, my ASb light came on, speedometer went to zero and my OD button blinked on, had my rear speed sensor replaced at the cost of about $80.00, since than my crank sensor went bad and I had that replaced, for about the same charge $80.00.I would try to crank it, sounded strong but would never catch. The last thing I did was put a new battery in it and it is now at 80,000 and cross my fingers running fine..
99 f-250 super duty v-19 supercab- my speedometer doesnt work at all, abs and check engine lights are on. Ive replaced the speed sensor in the rear end, but didnt do any good, it all started when i had my mech at work wire in my fog lights (he installed a relay and a toggle and wired them into the parking lights) the next day all the above stuff happened, when scanning the self test doesnt seem to work keeps aborting, anyone have any ideas? please help and thanks in advance
