I started my truck last night and I didn't get but 10 feet from where I was parked and my dash lights went out. At first I thought it was only the dash lights. Then I figured out it was also my runing lights. The headlights turn on and the high beams turn on and the turn signals and brake light come on. What's the problem here. Is there a fuse that I'm not seeing that controls all of these?
Thanks.
I would check your fuses first. The pyro is aftermarket and could've been hooked up to come on with the dash lights so if the dash light fuse is blown that's why the pyro won't work. If you have a test light, on top of the fuse there is a "hole" on each side where you can see metal. touch both sides of the metal with the test light, the other end of the test light grounded and make sure the test light lights up each time to see if you have a blown fuse. Or if you know which fuse is the dash lights you could just check that one.
Do you have to be moving for it to blow or will it do it when standing still? Do you have any aftermarket lights like a led strip or side lights? Because maybe a wire to one of those is shorted out. I had that happen to me once in my old rig. It was kinda funny cause I turned the lights on with the truck not running and rocked it side to side and hurd it ground out under the cab and then that gave me an idea of where to look. It was a 1 in a million shot I know, but it worked for me you should try it.
check in day time just run the truck without turning the lights on, and see if everuthing ealse works and fuse is good, if it only happens check your headlight harness and check your plugs on the headlight bulbs ,, or the trailer connector, it might have busted or shorted wire,
it has to be a wireing problem,
have your wife or somone turn the lights on when you look at them, and see if one of them is dimmer, thats where your problem will be, check parking lights and stop lights,
or if you have an multimeter unplug you headlight and measure between connectors, you should not have LOW resistance there if you have somthing is shorted,
if you want ill check the resistance on mine tommorrow, but i thimk it should be very high with bulb unplugged
the head lights don't go out, its just the parking or running lights. i will try putting a new fuse in and check to see if the pyro works. unfortunatly i think i will be trading my truck in saturday.
I no longer have the truck guys. So, I'm not sure what was wrong with it. Thanks for all your help and maybe I'll stick around and tell you guys about the new diesels that we get in at the dealership.
