Solid motor mounts?

I searched yet came up with nothing. Anyone know of any motor mounts that are not the cheap rubber type in the truck style mounts for the FE engine? Mine keep ripping and I keep replacing with mounts from LMC and other places and they just keep ripping. At one point I used some cable and a turnbuckle to keep the engine from torquing over, but since I installed the Ibeling p/s on my f-100 4x4 theres not really any room to tie it back down to the driver side frame and do that again. Any suggestions? TIA, Stan

Rather than go with solid mounts (not a good way to go as the noise and vibration increase is unbelievable). Use either a chain or a steel strap to limit motor travel. Connect one end to the left frame and the other to the left head. I do the chain thing for the street machines, but for race cars I have steel straps, usually 1"X1/4", run from the front and rear of the left head to the frame. The head end of the strap has a slot that the bolt into the head can slide in so that at idle and easy cruise there is less vibration and noise, but it limits the rotational engine travel and saves the mounts.

Yes as soon as I install the new build this week I was going to see if I can get some chain or cable or like you said a strap to bolt up and tie it down. But when I installed the p/s it took up alot of the room where I could mount it all. Oh well I try to figure something out and post some pics... Stan

The polyurethane ones for off-road are pretty stout. Have you tried those?

I'm going to redesign the motor mounts when I swap my engine to use the spool type like this

so that the engine torque actually compresses the rubber instead of trying to tear it apart.

Yes I want to use the tubular/spool design as well, and I know it wouldnt be hard to fab them up, but I am on a very short time budget here and have a very limited tool supply at the current moment where my truck is so that is out of the question for now...

No I have never seen poly mounts for the FE, especially for the F-100 4x4 application. If I knew those were out there I would just be going with these from the start. Where can you find them? I havent seen them from Daystar or Energy Suspension? TIA, Stan

Are you speaking of the tube/bar type limiting device? I have seen those but just but just dont think I can fab up a place to mount it to on the frame side at the moment. Oh well, I ordered new rubber mounts once again for the moment and will replace them later on. Im just going to try to reuse my cable and turnbuckle setup as well for now... Stan

Cable stretches to much and needs to be constantly adjusted to take up the slack.

I used a chain to hold down my engine from the exhaust manifold bolts down to the motor mount stand. It had just enough slack at idle and normal cruise to not transmit vibration. The first rubber mounts did not last past break in.

I just drilled the motor mount and used a grade 8 bolt through it, the rubber is still there for vibration but the bolt won't let it pull apart.

Thanks for the tip...

Both good ideas. I think I'll try one of these... Stan
