What to do?
My heads are shot. They are C8AE-Hs, and I have found some at an internet site remanufactured for 175.00+ 20.00 shipping. Local machine shop gave me a quote of 450.00-500.00 to do all the work to mine. Should I get the ones from the interweby place? It is cylinder-heads.com, if anyone wants to know.

Compare the list of what's done in a "rebuild".
I remember the old man paying $650 or so to rebuild some 390 heads. I think he got hosed, but the heads were done right.
What can you do to a head for $175 anyway? No new valve guides for that price. No new rocker shafts... What else is or isn't done?

Talk to your local nearby machine shop, they usually have FE heads, make sure the Casting number match. Have them list what is included in the FE (390 cid) head rebuild. Make sure the head has steel seats for the unleaded gas. Ask them if the valve springs are tested to meet specs. Ask them what other work goes into the heads.
Usually a rebuilt head does not include the rocker arm assembly. You or the Ford Guru mechanic will need to verify if the rocker arm/ shaft assembly is usable.
