The 1977/79 F150/250 351M/400 4WD perches; the 1979 F350 351M/400 4WD perches and the 1978/79 Bronco perches fit these trucks only.
Pretty sure THIS is why I am having the problem with lining up the motor mounts with the frame perches. Because the M motor mounts are year specific then it follows that the frame perches are different as well. My truck is a 1978 4WD f250 with 4spd trans and I am swapping a 351W into it, I followed the advice here on the forum that W will fit M frame perches if using the 302 motor mounts BUT on my truck the hole in the frame perches sits too close to the firewall by roughly 1/2" to 3/4" on passenger side, and maybe 1/2" on driver side. SO it follows that if the perches are different then the M motor mounts are different, so the hole in the perches will be different and that is why I have to drill a new hole in the frame perches. The W is in now, I swapped bellhousings and bolted everything in place but the 302 motor mounts do not line up, everything else fits fine and nice, I removed the motor mounts from engine and set them in the perch holes and then lowered the engine onto them to see if that would line up and it does not, so I have some drilling to do. I took pics but will get more after I get it bolted in, and post them all at once here. NOTE, the 302 engine mounts are the same part number, the same part for each side, there is no left and right for them, so swapping them side for side will not accomplish any change in location of threaded shaft going through frame perches.
