Electronic Fuel Injection for my FE?

After continual frustration with the Carburator and its temperment, I am considering Holley's Commander multiport system for my engine. Does anyone out there have a template for mounting the injector bungs on an Edelbrock Performer manifold? Help, Please! I am open to further enlightenment, so rip away! My engine is a freshly rebuilt 352 with a Holley 4412 (500cfm) two barrel, with manual choke, fired by a Jacobs ignition system and Pertronics module in the Distributor. Otherwise stock. I have also aquired a 75 390 complete with four barrel intake. Thanks for any help. Jamie

It would be much easier to use a single plane manifold. The reason is that the runners line up. I suggest the Edelbrock Streetmaster 390. You want the injectors pointed at the center of the intake valve, IIRC.

I do have a Commander 950 TBI setup on my 390. So ask away...

rusty, Thanks for the input. Where would I find a Streetmaster Intake? Does Edelbrock still sell them? What did the Commander do for your performance, gas mileage, and ease of maintenance? I guess I'm asking if it is worth the investment. Just this set up is more than I paid for the whole truck, but I am in it for the long haul, and love the set and forget nature of EFI, not to mention it's dependability. Thanks again, Jamie

Kurt knows volumes more than I do. But, it seems to me that for a mild 352, one of the ThrottleBody setups would be adequate and a lot simpler. Is there enough improvement to justify the Multi-Port setups extra cost and work?

Well I haven't used the multi-point system, so I cant really say much about it. However, it *should* be more efficient than the TBI setup.

Power was much improved from the Holley 600 that was on it. Dont ask me to explain why. If I had to guess though, it's the mechanical secondaries and the fact that it came with a 700cfm throttle body. The injection eliminates any bogging normally associated with too much airflow. Just put your foot down and go. Also, on one highway trip, I got 17mpg. This is with a normally ~400hp 390, in an 2wd F100, with a C6 and 3.50 gears. Now to be fair, I was driving with the wind, the elevation above sea level is slightly higher than my destination, and I did keep it between 55 and 60mph. However, 15mpg is the regular highway mileage.

Now it is a lot of tuning to get it tuned right, but in the end I feel it's worth it.

The Edelbrock Streetmaster intake is no longer in production. However, you can find them relatively cheap. DSC has 'em for $170. See here: http://www.dscmotorsport.com/Manifolds/index.htm

gtex and rusty, Thanks for the responses! I am leaning toward the TBI,due to cost, even if I go that way. Sounds to me from other threads that many have trouble getting good sealing ,intake to heads/block with aluminum intakes, so I'll probably stay with my cast iron four holer when/if I do the conversion. Carb man in town said I have crap in my metering block as I can crank one air fuel screw closed and kill the engine but if I do the opposite side first , nothing happens. So maybe I can save a load of cash and just blow out my metering block. I was planning to jet down anyway! Thanks again. Jamie

Another source for the Streetmaster intake is eBay, although they usually go for around $150 - $200+ and are usually used. I see about 2-3 of them on there at a time.
