I am looking for some headers and was wondering if anyone had any experience with these two headers?
The first is a Hooker 6824HKR header they come with a frame mount kit?? 12677, the guy from hooker emailed me and told me it would work for my swap. (Stroked 545 into a 74 crew that was a 390 both 4x4 and std trannys.)
Then I found a hedman shorty header 89460 which the guy a Mopac said would work too. any dealings with either of these ???? Thanks.
I am very interested in your feedback after getting the headers installed.
1.Install problems
2.Fit, Finish and completeness of product
3.SOTP(seat of the pants) performance
4.What size are the primaries? I looked them up, but havent yet found the primary size?
The footnotes I found on another site suggest that these will only work with an automatic. I plan to go manual soon, so I guess these are out for me.
The Hookers work with auto or manual, have a 1 7/8 primaries, 3 in. collector, and they are tuned. But they are more expensive. $460 for painted and $670 for ceramic coated.
The L&L Headers really seem to be the best bang for the buck and much heavier duty.
The L&Ls have a lifetime warranty(far better than the 90day from Hooker) and 14 gauge tubes vs. 18 gauge of the Hookers. The only draw back to the L&L Headers is they dont have the 1 7/8 primaries that I would like. I dont think the 1 7/8 primaries are worth the extra $245 though!?
ceramic coated Hooker Super Comp-->$670
ceramic coated L&L--> $425
Grizz 3000, is your truck a standard 4x4 too? My biggest concern is the installation room. I figure if you use the shorty header you can bend the pipe up to the collector anyway you can get to it. I had some issues with my headers on the 390 and don't want that headache again.
well... what are you planning on doing with your truck? shorties (fenderwell exit) are only really good for high rpm, if you go with long tube (chassis exit) headers then youll have better bottom end power.
Brad, yes, I have a stock 4x4 7.5/460.
Note that I haven't put my Hedmann headers on yet.
The fit does look 'interesting' to say the least. I better wait until the snow season is over for the header project to make sure I have my snow plow up and running.
I'm struggling with a rear seal stuck in the block issue right now.
