I have a 1970 f100 2wd with a 425 horse 306. I was wondering if there were any other options for headers other than Hedman, Hooker, or Flowtech. If anyone could help me out it would be very appreciated. Also out of the 3 brands mentioned above what would be the best one. (I know Hooker and Flowtech are the same company but jw which is better)
Hi Josh,
IMHO there all 'bout the same..... unless you go with some Sanderson shorties or tri-Y's.
If you go with the popular long tube style, I recommend you either heat rap the pipes or insulate the Starter, or both. I would go through a Starter every other year due to the header heat cooking it. Since I wrapped it in hi temp insulation it's lasted the past 5 years.
I have a used set of long tubes I removed from my 71 F100,302, 4X2 parts truck. I don't know how much freight would be from Az. to Mo. If you're interested PM me.
If your 306 is in fact pushing 425 HP you're gonna need bigger headers than what will be offered for the truck application.
I had good luck running MAC TFA-693 Mustang headers in my '94 Lightning and I believe frame width is the same so with some work they should fit. They are 1-3/4" primary
