Tire Suggestions for 17" Stock Rims

I'm looking for any and all suggestions on what type and size of tires to upgrade to on my truck. I currently have the 17" chrome steel wheels and will be installing a 2" leveling kit. My axle ratio is 3.55 and I occasionally tow a 34ft 7,000lb trailer. I don't want to completely kill my performance by going for too large of a tire. I was thinking of a BF Goodrich 285/70/17 or even a Nitto Grappler 295/70/17, but am concerned about the performance hit of going with a 295 series tire. Any thoughts suggestions or even photos would be very helpful.

I know most of you will tell me to swap the gears out for 3.73's or even a 4.10's which is someting I might consider in the future, but for as much as I pull the trailer (1 or 2 times per year), it's kinda hard to justify the expense as the truck is a 4x4 and I'd have to do both axles. FYI, truck is a 5.4L with Edge Tuner, Cold Air Intake, Hedman Headers and a Flowmaster Cat Back System.

look the Firestone Destination M/T...it comes in a 33" tire with 17" rims and is really nice. nice road manners, not overly loud (you can hear them on the highway), and they have the best offroad traction I've ever had.

look in my 93 Bronco gallery for a few pics of them mounted. I'd run them on my FX4, but it came with 18's and I am too cheap to buy new rims just for those tires.

a 33" tire fills the wheelwell really nicely with the leveling kits and does not rub unless you get some weird tire size.

I like the BFG Long Trail T/A's. I use the 265/70 17's on my 01. Sam's Club has a good deal on them. Mine are wearing nice, are quiet and work good in the snow.

I use Toyo Open Country HT 265 70 r17. I like the way they feel, and good on gas.

I got 285/70/17 BGF mud terrain. I also did a leveling kit. it looks great. BUT I went from 16 mpg to 12.5 MPG. That's on the highway at 60 mph. I also need fender flares which I didn't plan on. I'm not sure if that's a result of the backspace of the rims being wrong. I trusted the guy that sold me the tires and rims to get the back space right. I think it's correct but I'm not positive. I don't know how to show yoiu a picture. I have the same performance mods as you except the headers. Where the headers worth the money ?

My brother just put on some 285/70R17s on his it seems to ride pretty nice. They arent nearly as aggressive as the BFGs but they ride a little better and arent as loud. There is a pic of his truck next to mine in my gallery.

The jury is still out on the headers. I noticed they're throatier then stock and my Engine Oil Temperature is lower while towing the trailer, so I guess they're worth it. As far as mileage, I didn't really buy the truck for mileage as I'm averaging around 12-14 MPG now. Kinda hard to complain about mileage when you're driving a 6,000lb truck.

I used my hypertech to change speedo for tire size. They've been doing construction on the highway I use, they have an electronic sign that tells you your speed when you go by. It's correct. I know I hit the gas station more now. I expected to loose a little but not that much. I'm the slowest guy on the highway now.

Your brothers tires fit under his truck fine. It looks my backspace is off. I've had my wheels and tires about 6 months. I guess I can't make 4wheelparts.com replace my wheels with the correct one's now.
