Remote Starter for 08 6.4???
My 08 F350 KR CC SB 6.4 is ordered and now I am accessory shopping to help pass the time until it is built. I am looking for good advice on remote start. I currently use a Viper on my 05 6.0 and itr works okay, but it does fail to start sometimes in real cold, as in 0 F or below, weather, Also the remote button sometimes pulses when you push it so you are not sure you have gotten a real double push to start it. Minor irritations I know, but still irritating. I was thinking I would look at the Ford Factory unit this time out, but I would love to hear from folks here about your remote start units, how well they perform and what features they have that you like or dislike? Thanks for your help and info.

In all honesty, I think most trucks would have trouble starting in 0- temps...even with remote starting and a block heater.
As far as for the units, most of the trucks that I have seen use them start fine. They seem to be of good quality. There may be something better out there..its just a personal decision.
Some units have turbo timers, and other things. It just depends on which one you get.
Good luck and congrats on the new order.

My 2005 F250 PSD had a Ford Auto Start/Alarm. It worked great! My 2006 F350 PSD DRW had an aftermarket Auto Start/Alarm. It didn't work so great. The Alarm part was very weak, not worth having really and the Auto Start portion needed to be re-adjusted a few times before it finally worked. My 2008 F450 PSD DRW will get a Ford Auto Start/Alarm

the ford code alarm has a 8 second crank timer for the diesels that should help. but bad part is at those temps any diesel will take a hit or 2 to start with a remote starter.
and as of today code alarm has not yet posted the wireing for the 08 f series trucks. if any one else has that information yet. i would say any ones guess can be better then mine. i would just wait it out untill the truck arrives and more possitive information is avalaible before buying any thing at this point.

I have an 2005 and the ford gold system. The main reason I went with the factory one was to keep the full functionally of the keypad. I would like the 2way remote, but its ok. The only thing I wish they had is use the wait to start light instead of the fixed 30sec timer.
Its made it down to 5F here in Kansas this weekend and it will start just fine. I have it plugged in although it does sound like its going to throw a piston right out of the motor. I am also running 15W40 as I didn't expect to be up here from the nice balmy texas....

The factory ones are very easy to install if your electronics savvy. It was my 1st unit to install and the longest time was figuring exactly where to place the stupid control unit that was easy to get to and functional.
The wiring diagrams are all published so that was easy.
The only way they can void the warranty is if they can prove that your wiring did something to blow something up. Just like the other mods to the vehicle. Same as putting in a new stereo as well, if you might break something taking the dash apart.
If a shop did it as well and blows something up your in about the same boat, as well as now you have to take the shop owners to court to get your repairs paid for and all your court costs.
Most dealers will not deal with the electronics and farm it out to a 3rd party anyway. If they do then most of them will install what they sell and feel comfortable with too.
