Has anyone else ever noticed the two different hood designs on 1959 pickups? I had always wondered why all the sales brochures and early drawings of the 1959 Ford pickups depicted the hood without the raised part in the center. Recently I've actually seen a few pickups without that raised center part. It appears that the '59 hood was modified sometime after production had already started, and that raised center was added maybe for strength. Anyone else ever notice this? Which style does your '59 have?

whell kenny my doner 59 has the raised center section of the hood,i have never saw one without the center prtion raised, do you mean like the 57 and 58 hoods, basicals one piece of metal stamped, and somewhat floppy ?? garry
Nope, I'm refering to just the small raised section in the center, on the top of the hood. It runs from the back of the hood right down to the "metal mesh" insert on the front and is narrower in front than it is in back. Other than that, it is identical to the other '59 hood in every other way. The '57-'58 hood is totally different. My '59 has the raised portion too. I think it is only the very early 1959 models that don't have this raised section. I'll try to post a picture if I can get my scanner to work.
