Hey all. I am looking for a no BS answer on this. I am just curious what kind of mileage you are getting out of your 7.3L I have a 99, the early December model. My computer tells me I am “supposedly” getting 16.5 mpg, but when I check it myself I am getting 14 or 15 rarely. Just curious what everyone else is getting. My truck is stock and babied, 93K on the motor. I want better mileage. I am going to get some WARN hubs soon, b/c I know my crappy Ford ones are frozen in the locked position. But that should only scrape a mile off my mileage. I have people telling me I should be pulling down at least 20mpg. It should also be noted that I have 3:73 gears in it, not 4:10’s.

Any suggestions on things I can do to increase my MPG? I am thinking of getting a chip for the computer, but am nervous about that. I don’t know how to tinker with that stuff.
That is funny, I would have thought down south in the warmer climate you would get at least 3 or 4 mpg better than me up here in New England. Thank you for the fast response. Maybe my truck is running about average then. Have a great new years.
I'm seeing 22-23mpg highway with no A/C running and running on #1 diesel.
3.73 rear end. The winter blend diesel is dropping it around 1.5mpg. My truck
also has several mods. My DP 80hp econo tune chip is the most responsible.
#2 is keeping my speed around 65mph.
Well even we are on winter blend, I tend to see a 1 -2 mpg drop when the blend changes usually around the 1st of October here. that when i started this database so i can see if my therory is right next year.
The DP-tuner drivers typically see 3-4mpg better than i have benn seeing but you will want to open up the intake and exhaust prior to adding it as well as adding gauges to monitor th engine and tranny (Pyro, Boost, Trans Temp)
22-23?!?!?!?!? WOW I may have to start to look into making some mods then. I love my truck and have no desire to get rid of it. Had it 7 years and still love it like the day I drove it off the lot.
Don't doubt the 2WD and 6 speed guys, it's not uncommon to see 20+ out of them.
However, with an automatic MPG it is much tougher to get anywhere near 20.
Absolute best ever for me is 18.5 MPG, that's driving 70 on the interstate. I can duplicate any time, but the limit is 75 here, so I normally run 75-80+.
In town I get a solid 14.4 unless I'm really laying down the heat, then 13ish.
I average around 15 mpg out of my truck. its a 2000 f250 4x4, extended cab with an automatic. I got a 5 inch exhaust and the 6637 mod and a edge evolution programmer. I only noticed about a 1 mpg change with the edge programmer but its hard to keep my foot out of it b/c i like hearing the exhaust .
Don't compare your 4x4 to the 4x2 because they tend to get about 2 miles to the gallon difference. I also keep mine under 2k most of the time on take offs as well, getting between 16-17.5 on average. When I am in the extreme mode of 140 and staying under 1500 RPMs at 62 mph I can get 19 mpg, this is usually going up the mountains on winding roads. 160,000 miles and still going strong. The winter gets about 1-2 mpg less.
