Ok I don't know if this worked. I thought it would look different. Kenny did I do it right. If you can see the pictures I apologize for them. I had my son take them he had to climb over a couple of cars and break down some bushes just to get these.
I was looking at this photo (previous post)and I think it may be a 56. I also noticed that it appears to have a factory turn signal switch. If it is would it be self cancelling and would it fit my 57? I am installing the Mustang IFS and could change columns if necesssary. What do you think? What motor would most likely be in this truck?
I noticed that It has the chrome around the windshield, does it have the big back window or the chrome around the door glass? If so, it would be a fairly rare truck.
the picture definetely shows a 56 Cab over engine COE). It is a Custom Cab because of the windshield trim. That trim is the same as a F100 on up. I don't think you could get the wrap around rear window on a COE. I had one on a F600 once though.
Do you know if the turn signals were self cancelling that year? What other options did the custom cab offer? I am especially interested in anything I could adapt to my 57.
Charles,
I don't know for sure if the turn signals are compatable, but my Obsolete Ford Parts catalog does show '56 thru '60 as being the same switch. I know for certain that the turn signal lever **** is different. '57 has a black sphere shaped ****.
Kenny
If I remember when my 56 was stock, the turn signals are self cancelling. The 56 got some parts that will interchange with the 57-60's. I know the wiper motor is the same. My electric wipers came from a 57 F500.
Ok my goal is self cancelling turnsignals with a stock looking setup. The steering wheel appears to be the same as my 57 and since I am installing a Mustang IFS the column doesn't have to match perfect as I will use a universal joint of some kind to connect with the rack and pinion.
With all that in mind do you know of a easier way to get the self cancelling signals that will look original?
it should have a Y-block V8 in it. Get the "ram-horn exhaust manifolds". They are much desired by guys with Y-blocks that want dual exhaust on their trucks and it gets rid of the crossover pipe in the front of the engine. I have seen these go for $250-400 for a pair. Of course, you have to find the guy that will pay that.
I agree with all that the truck is a 56 C-750/C800 COE Custom Cab. COEs did come with big rear windows, but were very rare. My dad has a similar 55 COE...
What is the wheelbase of this truck? Does it have 10 lug wheels or 8? Would also be interested in whether it had air brakes or tandem rear axles.
Good job identifying the truck with such poor pictures. I am going to try and get back there in a week or two. I'll try to get some more pictures if we can clear a spot to shoot. I should be able to answer the questions then.
