I have a new to me 01 X with the 7.3 and 80,000 miles. Today I pulled in my driveway and all gauges went dead (to zero) and the throttle quit working the truck did not shut off so I coasted to my parking space and stopped. The "theft" light was blinking on the dash and still is. I shut it down and then tried to start it and it would only run for a second or two then shut down. What gives? Any help would appreciated. Can I just pull the fuse for anti-theft to get me going for now? If so where is it? The manual doesn't tell and I didn't get a service manual yet. It does have the key pad on the door but I don't know the number. I saw the thread on where to find it and I'll get it.
The #19(instrument cluster, GEM module, overdrive cancel switch,PATS/PATS transiever, idle validation switch) fuse was blown. I put a new one in and started it right up. I put the code reader on and no codes showed up. I took it to the Ford dealer and had them run a diagnosis check on it they said a couple of old codes showed up that they erased but code B1575 parking lamp switch circuit reocured. Everythings working ok I'm going to run it and if it happens again I'll cross that bridge then unless someone else has a good idea.
This past July this happened to me on vacation. Dealer found the same fuse blown and the found a skinned wire in the steering column. It was the wiring harness connected to the gear shifter. 75$ for parts and one hour labor back in business. This was caused by the tilt in the wheel. If your blows again it could be a skinned wire somewhere.
Well it blew again! I'm going to pull apart the steering column to check for bare wires like fortuitous said happed to him. I did put another fuse in and it's working fine. I'll post if I find anything. I am open to suggestions.
Found and fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was up against so I took it to a local auto diagnostics shop and it was the wires going up the shifter for the overdrive cansell switch. Sounds like the same thing fortuitous had.
