Wait a minute! You mean to tell me the San Jose Ford plant was not IN San Jose but in Milipitas? That is like saying Hollywood Park is not in the city of Hollywood, or the Los Angeles Rams (when they were here) played in Los Angeles. So, all those Ford VIN decoder manuals need to be changed from San Jose to Milipitas

Yes the plant was kind of in an area north of San Jose referred to as "Milpitas". At the time the plant opened though I believe it was really on unincorporated county land, not an official town. Both SJ and Milpitas were much smaller than today, they didn't have boundaries that touched and the plant was between them. I guess in the '50s no one knew what a "Milpitas" was let alone where it might be. It was pretty much a bar, gas station and maybe a couple of diners with a few little houses close by. So, calling it the San Jose plant probably made it easier to find it on the map.

That makes sense. Sort of like Clovis Ca. People are like "Huh?" But if you say next door to Fresno, they are like "Oh yeah, I know where that is."
