I am totally confused with my tires. I am running Michelin LT235/85 R16. The tires themselves say if running single or dual, pressure 80PSI. I would have thought that this is the MAX.
Yet, on the sticker in the door jam, it says FRONT 55 and REAR 80. Do they really want me running the rears at 80psi.
I will give up on comfort for the BEST gas mileage and longest life of the tires. Trying to figure out the proper balance here. Here are the stats on the truck. Any suggestions? Thx... Mike.....

didn't read whole thread, but my std reply is to do the chalk test....
do a search - it will tell you the proper pressure for your truck, your tires, your weight....
see malikenya' post this was part of the second ford firestone fiasco firestone preempted ford on this one and forced a recall if you check the load that a load range D is rated at it will not safely carry the gvrw of a loaded (towing) ex therefore the switch to E rated tires Ford was looking for a softer ride hence lighter springs and D rated tires Took my Ex into firestone and the first thing they did was scrape off the doorpost sticker. the second thing they did was drill holes in four perfectly good tires.
I run 60 psi all four all the time and the tires are wearing well
Make sure you check your rims psi rating. My early 99 CC Dually had aluminum rims on it and I brought the truck into the tire place for a free rotation(last time i will do that) the guy put 80psi in the tires. 2 days later i was towing my 9000lbs camper on our way to fla, I 95 and we stopped for lunch, i heard air coming from somewhere, front left tire looked low, so i ran my hand round the tire and nothing. I put my fingers inside the wheel and sure enough there was a 14 in crack inside the wheel. First thing i did was lower all the other tire pressures to 60 and then i put my spare on. That could have been a disaster if it blew, It cost me 350.00 for a new wheel which took forever to get. Just remember that tire ratings are for the tire, an E rated tire can have a max psi rating of 80 but the rim may not be rated for that. Mostly E rated tires are used on steel wheel applications. So check your rims !!!!!!!!

I would be shocked to have a tire dealer Scrape off the doorpost sticker for the federal rating on the tires. I would assume they have the federal authorization and would install a new sticker.
For them to drill holes,, as long as they bought the tires.
My 2000 has two stickers. the main one on the vehicle part of the door jamb with the VIN, paint codes, axles, barcodes, etc says 45f/55r. There is another on the catch part of teh door that says 38f/45r.
Am I to assume the one on the door with 38/45 should be removed? Those pressures seem way low for basically any tire.
The 2nd part is the tires on my Ex are Firestone Destination A/Ts. They are only Load Range C, but claim a max of 2470 lbs each (that's 9880 total). The odd part is that they max the weight rating at a max pressure of 50 psi.
Should run them at 45-50f and 50r all the time? I'm especially curious as I am about to make a 1200+ mile road trip (NOTtowing) and don't want them to get too hot and have any issues.
jay thats the sticker firestone scraped off my ex . load range C seems way wrong but they are cheaper fewer plies in the consruction load range D was spec as issued and later upgraded to load range E. my ex came with lt 265/75R 16s

The door sticker pressures are the minimum pressures. Go ahead and run your tires at the maximum as posted on the sidewalls. 50 PSI is not much for an X. I run 65 PSI at all four corners with my load range "E" tires.
