I have a 1997 Ford F150 with a 4.6. I went to start the truck this morning in freezing cold Colorado weather. I turned the key and it went to the run setting, but would not engage the starter. All the power was on to the truck, but the key would not turn off of the run setting or start the truck. I took everything apart and checked the ignition switch and the key cylinder drum, they seemed to be fine. I noticed that the plastic linkage between the cylinder drum and the ignition switch seems to be disconnected. Since this is inside the steering column, I do not know how to access it to repair it or if it even can be. Any help or suggestions--would be greatly appreciated.
Did you get it figured out yet?
You have to pretty much pull the whole columnn apart to replace the actuator rod.
If you're going to tackle it yourself might find it easier to remove the complete steering column to work on it.
