I am looking for a reverse tilt hood for my '53- does anybody have an extra, used, beat up and repairable or know of a cheaper alternative than 300$ models seen in magazines?-thanks larry
I seriously doubt you will find a decent one for less than $300.00, however if you have all the steel parts you can weld them together which is what has been done in the past before the fiber glass ones were manufactered.
a friend has made several of these by using the hood hinges from a late 80's Buick. They are reverse opening and he still uses the stock F100 latch. I have accumulated a couple of these in case I ever have time to tinker.
no, he bends the rod that runs from side to side to clear the stock latch. When he is done, it doesn't require a prop rod either. He used to sell them for $250 but I don't know if he still makes them. I will see him at the "Dash to the Dells" truck show in Wisconsin this weekend and ask him. He just sold his 55 and is working on a 66 right now. Knowing him, he will figure out how to make it work on that one too.
truck farmer- could you find a out a little more and possibly get a picture on how this hood tilt or your friends is done?- maybe you could get him to email I have access to junk yard stuff and would be very interested in how this is installed-thanks larry
