I need to replace the glowplugs on my '86 6.9L. Given that the search feature on the forum is disabled I can't look back to see what has been said about glowplugs.
Can anyone suggest what are the various options for glowplugs, the differences, current prices and sources? I wired the truck for a manual switch to replace the glowplug controller if that makes a difference. Thanks,
If you bypassed the controller, find glowplugs for a 5.7 Chev diesel. You would be after the 12Volt slow glow ones. they have a black insulator and a 1/4 spade terminal. Otherwise get the factory Motocraft/Beru ones right from the dealership.
I got a set of Beru plugs and updated electronic glowplug controller conversion kit from International Harvester truck dealer 6-7 years ago for my 84 6.9L.
No more GP problems so far...
I too recommend the Motorcraft. I tried the Bosch duratherm after they worked so well in my Mercedes, but I don't think they liked the extended time I hold them on with my manual switch (10 sec.). They only lasted 5 months.
