obd1 code
I just bought an inexpensive OBD1 code reader. Plugged it in and I get the following: 10 11 with the letter c in the upper right corner 41 again with the c and 34 I do not see a 10 in the code list? 11 is "system passed" 34 is "no egr flow" 41 is system always lean. This is a 88 f150 4x4 302 5.0 I get terrible gas mileage 10 mpg or less. Do I need an egr valve? Is this causing the lean condition? And if I'm running lean how come I'm geetin such poor mileage.

The lean code may be interpreted as the computer has reached its lean adaptive limit. This means the computer has leaned the mixture as far as it will go but is still rich. It could also mean that the O2 sensor is sending a lean signal all the time and the computer keeps making it more and more rich. When is the last time you replaced the O2 sensor?

I personally never changed the 02 sensor. Although the previous owner did 2 years ago and it does look new? Is it possible to test the 02 sensor separately? Or must I replace and retest? Also is the egr "no flow" related? One other question. The exhaust (cat and muffler) are way old!! Would a clogged or restricted exhaust cause these codes? Again my thanks.
