92 f150 front end
My 1992 2wd f-150 has a whole lot of slack in the steering. I had the ball joints replaced about 4 years ago so i dont think that is the problem but i cant seem to figure out the problem. Also sometimes i can hear a knocking sound from under the drivers side floorboard....sometimes even feel it on my feet. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. phil

You need to do an extensive inspection of all steering components including the shaft between the wheel and box, looking for worn parts. Also inspect the frame on the passenger side near the firewall, dripping moisture from the AC evaporator is know to rot the frame rail and cause it to break. Worn suspension bushings on the TTB mounting points will also cause excessive movement and clunking.

If the steering box is the source of the excessive play then it would be wise to change it. Do not overlook the tie rod joints and the U joint in the steering shaft, a little play in each of these can add up to a lot overall.
