switching mirrors is a pretty easy thing to do, but the door panel has to come off... The electrical connection is behind the speaker (it needs to come out too). Depending on the year, the electrical connector may be different, but thats nothing that a few butt-connectors cant fix
Let me know if anybody needs more detailed instructions on getting the door off and stuff!
I did the swap from the little mirrors to the tow mirrors on a 2000 Excursion (same doors as SD), so my mirrors were already heated, so no need for an extra circuit. ~$110 each @ partstrain.com for power heated double swing. Good luck!
BigGreen'77 - you have the XL model which we have at work for our maintenance department. They are great work trucks as they have all the benefits of the more common XLT Super Duties like mine, but they are striped of a lot of the extras that can get in the way of a real work truck. If I could find a used one for a good price it would be my next wheeling rig, but even used ones command a high price here in NY state. My XLT is too nice sometimes for a work truck and I have all the nice carpeting covered with Husky Liners so it seems a shame to even have it in the truck at times.

Yep, its an XL.
Funny thing is, when they first came out, I looked at them on the lot new. I said then I wouldnt mind having one. Its nothing fancy, but I just like the way they look...like a good work truck. I was even thinking about swapping out the front end (with the sealed beam headlights) for a newer style, but I like the front of the truck; grey grill and all
I had myself in the opposite position with my green truck (See my gallery). Bought it to use as a trail rig, but wussed out when the going got rough because I didnt want to tear it up.
Small world!!! The truck I replaced with my SD was the exact (not anywhere as nice) same truck!! 1977 F-150 Ranger 4x4!! Now that was a work truck. It was primarily a plow truck that I hauled and towed stuff with just like my SD. Sometime I regret selling that truck. Keep that baby going!!!
