I've read several posts about the expense and difficulty of rebuilding the E4OD transmission. My question is, if you started with one from a 97 model year, which is suppossed to already have the upgrades, how difficult could it be. Wouldn't it simply be a matter of installing the new parts from the rebuild kit. No modifications, no shift kits, just a straight rebuild. Right now my truck is working fine. My idea is to rebuild before it trashes itself and possibily sends pieces through all the passages.
Any thoughts on this. I've done a couple of TH350 and 400 units some years ago with good results, so I'm not totally unfamiliar with automatics. Thanks.
I have a good friend of mine that is a reputable trans rebuilder. He will not touch them to rebuild. He says they are a pain in the backside. When my son's E40D blew, he just bought one from Ford with a warrantee and plugged it in. Done. I have rebuilt some trannys in my day and I wouldn't touch one. But then, that's just me. Good luck.
