I am looking for a posi rear end for my truck. Can anyone provide the info I need to locate one (part #'s etc). Also, will I have any problems swapping it with the one I've got (different yoke, driveshaft to long/short or anything else). One other option that someone may know of is putting the posi (guts) in my rear end. I don't know the part # of the one I have, but if someone can point me to the codes to find out, i'd appreciate it. Thanks, Tommy
I've got the 4x version of your truck (xlt) and have a factory posi... could your allready have one?
Heres a quick rundown on diffs...
You can't really swap the guts out, you need to change the whole carrier. They make whats called a drop in or lunchbox locker, dunno if they make one for a 10.25 or not. That would be a locker, not a posi.
For a posi, as I mentioned, you need to swap the entire carrier. You put your ring gear on it, and hopefully won't have to mess with the pinion (or yoke) at all. Even if you do, it gets reinstalled. Even if you change the gears, you still use the same yoke.
I can't give you any #'s, butyou'll probably want to have an experienced shop do the work, it's not really a DIY project. I'd ballpark around $700-800 installed depending upon which carrier you choose.
you can call Randy's Ring & Pinion and they can set you up with Auburn, Eaton, Detroit . . . whatever turns your crank. Good pricing and service, all that. I'm sure pricing varies a lot locale to locale. When I did my gears, it was gears front and rear, a truetrack, covers, and the 4" lift for $1100 shop labor. That felt like a pretty decent deal.
