I like to do burn outs on my 69' F250 camper special with a 390 because it has plenty of power to do them. The only problem is that most of the time, I only have one wheel spinning. Sometimes, if I am lucky, I will get 2 spinning.
What do I need for the rear end for both to spin. I have heard of Posi and Limited Slip, but is there some kind of "add on part" that I can put in my current rear end.
Thanks
you can buy a posi lock for any rearend that you want ans do not need to replace housing or axils but it would be recomended to replace bearings and other parts at the same time.
A carrier assembly equipped with a set of 4 pinion (spider gears) acts like a FoMoCo or other type traction lok/ limited Slip/ Detroit locker.
If you back up straight on it, then drive straight ahead to a launch point, it will lock both wheels until you turn, swerve, brake, or otherwise deviate from going straight ahead. I can shred a set of tires with my 460 & a 4 pinion carrier, 9", set up. Although I must admit it's rather pointless.
But the set up also gets me great launches in the 1/4 mile and if I "breath" the loud pedal right I don't smoke any tires at all, and can cut a 12.60 every time. . . . .
I'm new here but alot of us mopar guys have DoctorDiff(Cass Eslick in Polson,MT) build the dana's and 8 3/4's for our cars,he does excellent work and his prices are hard to beat.
Here's his website http://members.aol.com/doctordiff
On your truck you could swap in a power-lock,track-lock or detroit locker in the dana,I would choose the power-lock.
