Posi Track

Hey I have been looking all around my area for a Ford Posi track rear end and I can't seem to find one all the local race car drivers are using them for there stock cars. I have heard of a person taking a regular rear end and making it posi track some how, but I'm not sure of this process. I'm not talking about welding spider gears or whatever that is called, but this is something different where you auctually take the rear end apart and make it posi track does any one know of this process or know of an alternative? My goal is to have a posi track rearend and about 3.85 gears or something around there.

Thanks
David

Interesting that the local racers have gotten all the traction lock rear ends; dirt racers usually just weld up the gears to get power to both wheels all the time. I have never heard of converting an open unit but anything is possible. Traction lock third members are around but are pricey. At the fall swap meet, a guy had several units for sale for about $350; guess I should have gotten his card. If you find one, usually the clutches need rebuilding. Of course, your chosen gear ratio can be installed at that time. I would suggest starting with a local gear shop and see what they can find for you. Your money will talk.

Maybe I mispoke on this one. Check out the April 2001 issue of Mustang and Fords. An outfit called Powertrax makes a unit for Ford 9 inchers which appears to work like a Detroit Locker (power to both wheels) as opposed to a traction lock. For those who don't have the magazine, they take a 64 Falcon convert with an 8 inch driven by a 260, rip it out, put in the Powertrax, a 3.50:1 gear ratio in a new 9 inch axle housing. They never mention the cost but with all those new parts, it has to be serious coin. The web site is www.powertrax.com and the outfit is in Costa Mesa, CA; ;why don't you research this and let us know some of the details?
