2006 Mariner, very weird thing happens. Cruise control will work fine, but sometimes when I hit a bump on the e-way, it will slow down, and if the bump is hard enough, it will kick the cruise right off. I thought I would ask in here, because its the same basic vehicle as the Escape. Checking to see if I need to bring it back to dealer. If anyone knows what the deal is, please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.
Well I dont know about the slow down, but I guess it would depend on the set speed and how hard the bump and if it was on an incline. A real hard bump might jiggle the brake pedal enough to cause brake lamps to activate or deactivation switch to activate or both. That of course would disengage the cruise control. Use of speed control on a rough road is not advised.
I understand that a hard bump would kick it off because of the brake pedal moving, but these are not real hard bumps, like a pot hole that was filled in. The speed is usually 70-75 mph on the expressway. I use my f150 on the same roads without issue. Sometimes if the bumps are light, the vehicle will slow down alittle bit, and not get back to the original speed I set the cruise on. It's strange, and I thought maybe someone has had this problem before, I like to try and educate myself about any issues before I head back to the dealer.
ya know, i have the same thing happen to me all the time in my 05 hybrid. its rather annoying. it surely has the sensation of slowing down when i 'tap' it to accel. i've found that if i press and hold it, it will work, but it doesn't like the light taps.
my suspicion is that the cruise is activated via messaging -- (CAN messages over the vehicle bus), and there is insufficient time for message to be received by CC module, or CAN bus busy, etc. I don't understand why this results in a 'slowdown/decel' however, unless the code stalls CC action w/ insufficient reciept of message. not sure. i don't have the message list for this vehicle else i might try to monitor it to see (w/ CANalyzer tool).
sucks, but i live w/ it. any news from your dealer, or any ford eggheads hip to this?
sorry, guess i didn't read your post correctly first time. sounds like you hit bumps and you get same affect as my tapping my accel button. maybe it is a funky switch. nevertheless, i still don't understand my dilemma.
I don't think its a real issue, all cruise controls seem to have their own little differences. Our 02 Escape tends to over-rev on large up- hills (highway), and then takes a half mile or so to come back down to the speed the cruise was set on before the hill. The Escape just doesn't seem to be as accurate as the cruise on most passenger cars, not a fault or a problem, just a different reaction time from vehicle to vehicle.
One easy thing you can check under the hood is just to see if the cruise control cable is in good shape and not hanging up on anything. Its easy to unhook and reattach this cable.
