Idle question...again

Hey guys quick question, has anybody ever had a problem with their truck taking too long to warm up or is it normal for everyone....i mean i have to sit there for about 5 minutes before the needle even budges.

Try hitting the brake pedal after a much shorter time. Seems like I read somewhere that would knock it down.

Sounds about normal...at least for my 2003 V10. After 5+ minutes warming up...and about 1/4 mile drive it starts to move. The tranny gauge moves quicker than the coolant gauge.

NOTE: All OEM gauges

Ooops. Looks like you're not talking about idle speed. I live in Minnesota and I drive about the same distance in the truck as I do my cars before feeling some warmth in the heater. Probably a quarter mile unless its below zero.....

Depending on what needle "temp guage" problably.
or rpm needle ???????
If its the temp needle its normal ,if its the rpm's you might have a sensor problem.
unless you are in a sub-zero area .

There are a few sensors that are used to control rpm level during warm up.

The V10 has a HUGE cooling system compared to a passenger car. Not to mention the amount of coolant in the block and heads.

So, it's going to take longer to warm up.

Compared to my '97 Cougar with the 4.6L V8, it takes about twice as long to warm up.
