I have a 77 F-150 with a 4" lift. I need to build ladder bars for it to stop the axle wrap and wheel hop. Has any one built them before on a similar situation. I would like some tips
LAST EDITED ON 03-Sep-01 AT 05:35 AM (EST)[p]I built a set on my 77 crew cab highboy. I built them out of 2in by 3in steel tubing, with 1 1/2 in round tubing on each end. Welded 4 (two for each side) triangle shaped pieces of plate to the rear end with a U shape cut out of them so it would fit correctly around the axle tube. In the 1 1/2 tubes on each end I put polyurethane energy suspension bushings. The bars themselves are 58 inches long. On the frame I welded (on the outside) another triangle piece clearing the bottom of the frame by about 4 inches. On the inside of the frame you have to make a larger triangle and bend it, that way you can set it on the frame rail and bolt it on. Once you have all your mounts in place. Oh I forgot dont forget to drill bolt holes in one tip of each of the triangles for bolts to mount the bars. Anyway now you should be able to hold the bars up there and put your 3in grade 8 bolts through the tip of the triangles and throught the bushings. BAM!!! No more axle wrap! I know this is all clear as mud. It really is easy man. Shoot me an email, I just got a new scanner at home that I'm dying to use. I will be happy to draw it out for you. If you dont want to do that, look at www.landlproducts.com they sell them for the fords.
