I'm looking either for someone that knows about ford 9.375 axles as found under late 60's big Fords, Lincolns, and Mercuries or someone that can point me to someone that knows about them.
I'm trying to figure out if the pinion yoke interchanges between the 9" and the 9.375" as well as if the side gears interchange.
Lincolns and T-Birds used these in the mid 60's...but that's about all I can tell you. While I do have the slides...where they are packed away...I haven't a klew...why not check with your local Ford/L-M dealer? The info will be in the 4000 section of the 1965-1972 passenger car books.

i actually thought about checking with a dealership right after i posted this up. i don't think any of them have computer info that far back, but most of them have it on microfiche.
the difference between a 9 inch and a 9 3/8 rear is the gear set, and most have the better 35 spline i think it is axles.
to fit the 9 3/8 ring gear in the housing, a groove was ground into the housing. good luck finding a set of gears. all i have been able to find is 9 inch ring sets. my 7 litre has a 3.25 9 3/8 gear set in it, and you either have to slip the clutch or pull a hole shot to take off from a light. but it will idle at 20 mph in first gear.
I know for sure they are 31 splines. I bought a 9.375 trac loc at a swap meet thinking it was for a 9 inch axle. The 9 inch ring gear will not fit the 9.375 carrier. That's all I know.
I'm not looking for parts for a 9 3/8, i'm wanting to swap a 9" centersection into my thunderbird and need to know if i'm going to have to buy the proper yoke and if i'm going to have to get one with 31 spline side gears.
If the side gears and yoke interchange it'll save me a bit of money.
The 9.375 will fit into a regular 9 inch housing with some grinding so I don't see why one can not reverse this. As for the yoke I have no clue. I have a buddy that may know the answer. I will try to remember to call him later today and ask him.
