Oddball sockets...

I am trying to find a 1/4 inch drive 1-1/8 in. socket, but nobody seems to offer one.

What would be the best way to come up with something like this?

1/4f to 3/8 m, 3/8f to 1/2 m adapters couldn't find "matco" listing of 1 1/8 socket in 3/8 drive. They are not made in 1/4" drive due to overloading the ratchet or breaker bar.

Question Why?

Seems like underkill, but if you insist. I would suggest the flat size adapters. They come in a set of 3 and are the thickness of the old spinner wheels.

I'm guessing checking drag on a diff.
Just use an adaptor.

Yes, preload on a diff...rolling torque. I don't like the adaptors because of the accumulated slack. My in. lb. torque wrench is 1/4 in drive and the nut is 1-1/8 in.

If I can come up with the socket that would be great! There has to be a way...

I take it you are suggesting that I weld a 1/4 in. socket to the back of the 1-1/8 socket...hmmmm...did not think of that one.

And no I don't have a welder, but I can easily find someone that does. If I can't come up with a socket - which I probably wont - this will be my plan b.

Thanks for the idea!!
The only hard part about this will be getting the 1/4 in. socket perfectly centered on the bigger socket...

The slack from the adapters won't affect the torque readings.

True...

But it's a pain to deal with and if I can get around it I will.

Just weld adapters in instead of a socket. Still, I have not had any difficulty dealing with the slack in the adapters. For the amount of torque applied in this case you could even JB Weld the adapters.

I have designed and programmed torque testing machines for tool manufacturers and the slack just required some movement programming but did not change the readings. Of course I was dealing with high $$$ NBS certified torque measurement equipment.
