Looking at replacing both batteries....has some small cheap autozone/world......whatevers in it now.I saw a post on another site and two guys were talking of how good their 30s/301s series batteries were with 1200 cca etc...I called a battery dealer and he went on about them being 2 inches taller and an inch longer and not as wide so would have to mod the bracket....went on to say it calls for 65 series that he has in a 1000 cca @32 and that they don't advertise res. as they are starter batteries and not deep cycle....went on to say in Va I don't need the 1200 cca..not that cold..what do you guys run?...I have 87 250 6.9 C-6 2X4 AC if makes a diff.....bone stock....will the 31's touch the hood?....would I have to modify the hold down?....wouldn't I notice the extra 200 cca....It's sloww to crank anything upper 30s and lower and have to crank it three or four times to get it to fire off. He wants to sell me a pair of 65 series Exides 1000cca@32 72 month for 75.00 each or Deka's for the same price when they come in in a couple days......What temp should I have to plug it in at?
for these trucks the more cranking amps you have the better. you want a minamum of 850 cold cranking amps really you should look for 1000 cold cranking amps. i know some people on here said that walmart has 1000 cca batteries for a reasonable price . my self i just bought two batteries 1000 cca from catapiller and you can hear the difference in the starter with the new batteries. if you use batteries that are too small or weak youll burn up the starter.
Napa has commercial duty batts that fit I just put two in my truck replacing the wall-mart crap ever starts. I hated them and will never buy them again. The Napa batts are 1110 ca at 32 and cca is around 900 don’t remember exact number.
I went with motorcraft as they was only $10 more that wallyworld for 1000cca. As stated - the smaller the battery you have the harder it is on the starter
