spotted a 6.4 today in a local school bus. bus driver pulled into a small store on my road and parked next to me and i noticed that it was a very quite diesel. so when we were inside i asked him about it and sure enough he said it was a brand new one that they have 2 of and that it was the newly devoled twin turbo from international. this thing sounds awsome let me tell you. does anyone know if they have already started putting these things in international uses or if they just got lucky and got to play with a couple that arent out yet. the driver said they have been running really well no problems and a decent amount of power even in the school bus application
I say the bus driver is full of it becuase per International's press releases it does not appear that their version of the 6.4, the "MaxForce 7" will have 2 turbochargers. See description below;
"Advanced Air Management
Working in conjunction with the common-rail fuel system is an air-management system utilizing an electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger (EVRT™). The EVRT employs a set of vanes that automatically adjust to optimize the airflow within the turbo to provides exceptional response over a wide range of engine speeds for impressive acceleration, grade climbing capability, high-altitude performance and towing capability. It also drives EGR, delivers more air at lower RPMs and reduces parasitic loads in low or no load conditions. All of this helps to reduce noise, improve fuel economy, meet emissions and make the International trucks the MaxxForce 7 powers responsive and driver friendly."
Also becuase of the rules as they apply to the production of new medium duty trucks and buses, International can produce vehicles with 2006 emission engines well into the first quarter of 2007.
