I've check out this site a few time in the past and gotten some good info on my truck. I thought I'd list a few things I was curious about and see what I can find.
96 regular cab Ranger, one owner, 180,000 miles, 3.0/5sp, 2WD. Had one clutch at 100K (trailers are killers!), starter, alt, cam sensor/shaft, rear main seal, u-joints....I think that's all.
I'm about ready to put a clutch in and had a couple of trans question, too. Over the past few weeks, it has started getting really stiff to put it in 1-3. It's not grinding, like the sycros were going. It just won't go into those gears without a fight sometimes. I'm also looking at putting in a locker rear diff, any suggestions? (not ltd slip, but either air or electric lock, I get in and out of some construction sites and I need a 4WD, but don't have the $ to upgrade and thought a locker would be a decent compromise for now).
In a way I wish this truck would die so I could justify a new one, but it gets worked hard almost every day and just won't give up, so I figure I can spend a couple bucks on her!!
How long has it been since you changed the trans oil? It will probably shift a lot better if you put new oil in, if its been a while. I changed mine at 70k and it made a suprizing difference.
I'll try the oil change. It has been a while since I changed it last(say 80K). Probably the reason the sycros have lasted so long is because I drive it like a non-sycro tranny. Too many years running 9,10, and 13sp in trucks. I usually let the input shaft slow down a bit before cramming it into a higher gear and have been known to double clutch on the downshifts. I wanted to give it all the life I could. SSS
