460 valley pan

460 valley pan

I am in the process of going thru my '73 460, switching out the old leaky gaskets for new ones and verifying that the internals will work for now. I ordered and am installing a overhaul gasket kit of which has intake manifold gaskets & front/rear 'S' rubbers. A valley pan was not included in my set. I was under the assumprion that the valley pan gasket was done away with before 1973. I supose it could be possible that is was replaced by a previous owner.

My real question is, if a valley pan gasket was on it, can I just put on the traditional runner gaskets and the front/rear 'S' rubbers or should I order a valley pan gasket?

id go ahead and use regular intake gaskets

and I never use the rubber end gaskets. just run a bead of blue RTV along each instead the rubber gaskets are prone to leaking.

My 87 460 had the valley pan, I replaced it with a Weiand stealth manifold and the instructions specifically stated no valley pan use...too bad I already bought the valley pan...
