I changed the fuel filter on my '99 last week and ever since I've had some hot start issues. After the truck has been driven for a while and it's good and hot, it takes about 2 or 3 seconds longer to start than normal. Once it starts it runs fine, it just takes a little longer to crank. If you cut it off and immediatly start it back, it does fine, it's mainly when it sits for a few minutes before you start it back that it does it. I pulled the filter cap back off and checked that the beveled gasket was straight and made sure the lid was tight, I'm not sure if I got air in it or something when I changed the filter? Any ideas? Thanks
My only guess would be thinning oil. when you cut it off and imeadiately restart some of the residule pressure is still there but if you let is sit a bit it has a chance to drain down. Cold start is fine right? how many miles on and weight of oil?
common cause of hard restart when hot is Injector Pressure Regulator (IPR)o-rings. I would bet that it's just coincidence that it started after the filter change
I changed the oil at the same time I changed the fuel filter last week. I used 15W-40 Rotella like always, but I did notice that Rotella had changed the label on the jug. Is it possible that Rotella's oil is a little different now?
How hard are the IPR o-rings to change?
rotella has been changed due to the low ash requirements coming out for 07 i think. but it should no affect the driveability of our trucks. here is an article on IPR removal and service. you probably don't need to do the complete service like the article shows but just replace the external o-rings. If i remember correctly there are three. Just make sure you get the square cut ring in the correct position.
What about all other o-rings that go on the filter itself? Did you check to make sure they were present? There should be one at the base of the filter, inside, center, (1" I think, already installed) where it slides onto the housing. There should also be one the bigger o-oring as wide as the filter that you install on the top outer part of the filter in the groove. And then filter lid gasket that has the bevel and goes on the lid sealing surface.
Sounds like this job would be easier with the intake and boots removed. I've been planning on cleaning or replacing the boots anyway, so I'll just do the o-rings this weekend along with the boots. Thanks guys
This seller on ebay says the IPR will fit all '99-03 trucks, but the early '99 trucks, which is what I've got, have a smaller HPOP, right? So will the sensor that fits all 99-03 fit this truck?
I am not sure on fiment issues. I am pretty sure it will go in and work just not sure if it will right if is not the right part number. Somebody here will know.
