I disagree. In some instances, the ground wire would not need to be upgraded. This may hold true for the battery + wire too. It all depends on what added load you are trying to drive, and where it's hooked up.
For instance I have a snowplow on my truck. The + of the snowplow is hooked to the large + terminal of the starter solenoid. The - of the plow is bolted to the engine block. In this case, the alternator output wire would be upgraded and connected to the starter solenoid connection where the plow is connected, and the - to the battery would not need to be upgraded, since the alternator is bolted to the engine block through the brackets, and the plow is hooked to the engine block.
If you are going to hook all your extra loads to the + and - of the battery directly, then yes you would need to upgrade the battery cables.
