OK, whats the weekend? I know its a tough time of year to try and get truck stuff done but I, for one, am going to try and sneak in some garage time.
I'm hoping to fabricate my other spring loaded tailgate latch and get the pair of them installed in my tailgate.
I also need to do a bit more grinding and smoothing on the tailgate.
If I get time I'm going to try grind down the spot welds and seperate the bed front from the bed floor on my donor bed and start making measurements to fit the bed front into my bed.
My 12 yr old had a neat idea for a battery location. I was going to modify and old metal beer cooler as a battery box and just have it in the bed of the truck. While my son and I were looking at the bed the other night he suggested I recess the batter into the bed floor and have a trap door in the bed floor for access. I'll have to take some measurments but I think I can make it fit. It looks like there is enough room at either of the front corners of the bed just outside the trucks frame. I might have to notch the running board as my truck as the running boards have the horizontal protion that attaches to the frame.
Good luck to all, may your weekend days pass slowly (unheard of for weekends) and your progress be positive
Bobby
Sounds like a lot of time management....for me...its installing a 12v heater motor in my heater. Doing the lines to the engine and running the wiring to the switch in the cab....which means - HEAT for the winter gents....who needs an A/C when you have vent windows for the spring/summer....(keep it looking like a classic truck with mild upgrades)....
I agree it is a tougher job to squeeze in truck time in the holidays. But, since we are "empty nesters", and with all the Christmas shopping done, I'm planning on at least one full day of work this weekend. I have all the sheet metal work done and am going to start the body filler work. This is going to be a very creative portion of the build, since I have to literally sculpt certain areas.
I have the whole week off between Christmas and New Year which I hope to use to finish the body filler work and get the truck in primer. Being no expert in this area, it's hard to say if that is a realistic goal, but it is my plan.
I do especially like working on the truck with Christmas carols playing in the background. There's just something very warm and fuzzy about that. I'll have egg nog toddies for breaks instead of the usual frosties just to keep in the spirit.

Man, there is nothing "warm and fuzzy" in my garage -- it's been in the high teens/low 20's at night for a couple weeks straight! This weekend is supposed to be warmer, and I have Friday off, so I intend to get in some quality time!
I've got the dizzy out for replacement with an MSD ready-to-run, but therre is an issue with the MSD and I may have to send it back. So while I'm down for that, I'm going to pull the heater and convert the fan motor to 12v and repaint the heater box. While installing the MSD, I found that my radiator is leaking (after a $150 rebuild!) and my accelerator pump linkage fell off the carb.... So I guess my work is cut out for me!
Sounds like fun ross.. I just got 2 packages in from UPS One is the shorty headers I won off ebay 2 weeks ago (slowwwwshipper) and the other is the third roll of carpet i ordered to cover my kick panels and rear speakers
So it looks like my kick panels and speakers will be finished this weekend.
I want to paint my transmission at least on Saturday afternoon. The weekend are bad for restaurant people so I usually don't get alot done. I hope to patch an area on passenger side floor as well. I am thinking about putting some thing like duraliner bed coating on the bottom of my cab. Has anyone done this. Will it keep it from rusting, or should I go with something like por15?
Got heck from my Boss cause I’m not using up my vacation, so I’m taking Monday off, therefore a long weekend.
Will finish stripping the paint off my new box sides.
Will prep the used rear fenders I recently got and we’ll affix the patch panels. May also tackle a mod I plan for them to reduce the size of the wheel openings.
Will build a special holder for the fenders to enable marking them for the cut required to enable them to be welded to the bed sides (did that sentence make grammatical sense?)
Will start shaping the wooden forms to be used for making the patch panels to cover the stock bed tail light openings.
Will watch one Senators game and drink a few wee drams (for medicinal purposes only, mind you)
I hope I can get some truck time on Sunday, our store is open Saturdays in Dec.. I want to complete the face plate over the new hinge pocket on the door. I need to make a special hammer to take out the door frame dings with.
Tommorrow AM we need to go to the dealer to leave a deposit on our new car we are ordering.
Navy Reserve drill weekend both days, holiday party tonight, squadron "hail & farewell" party Saturday night, some kind of Santa play on Sunday for the kids, install a new radiator in my commuter car Sunday afternoon, probably some forced Christmas shopping duty....
Looks like the truck will sit idle.
A big box from Eastwood's arrived today, however, full of Chassis black, Underhood black, and engine detail paints. Also recently got a big box full of new Zero Rust aerosols (red oxide and black), so I'll be ready to go once the holidays subside.
Woohooo, it sounds like most of us will be able to squeeze a little truck time in (sorry Rob)
I'm sure I'll get stuck with running holiday errands and shopping type stuff also. I will try and relegate it to the early morning and late evening hours so that I can have the warm part of the day for truck fun.
Randy, I think I'll try your method of egg nog toddies, or maybe some hot chocolate full of Bailey's Irish Cream. Perhaps I won't be such a Grinch about the holiday stuff with the proper medication (Fergie did say it was for medicinal purposes didn't he?)
Whoa!! Don't rush into things like that, you don't want to over do it!! I think you better take a break, go get yourself some of Randy's egg nog and find a warm place to enjoy it.
